The aim is to ensure that all Royal Marines Cadets Instructors have syllabuses which will show them what the cadet is required to know at every stage in his training, where the information to teach the various skills and knowledge can be found, and how best to put it over to the cadets.

The syllabus is both comprehensive and progressive.  It is planned in five phases covering the five stages in promotion from Recruit to Cadet Sergeant.  The progressive nature of the syllabus makes it essential that cadets cover all aspects of one phase before progressing to the next.  In addition, if the maximum value is to be obtained from this syllabus, it is essential that the text books and instructional pamphlets on which it is based are used for putting over the knowledge to the cadets.
